The full-day tour of Colca Canyon takes you on a magical journey through the Colca Valley. Hike up to the famous Cruz del Condor viewpoint for the most expansive views of the Colca Canyon and an out of this world sighting of the imposing Andean Condor. Later enjoy, a relaxing soak in the serene thermal baths close by. Visit an amazing National Park for interaction with llamas, alpacas, and Vicuñas. This comprehensive one-day tour gives you unparalleled views of the Colca Canyon and the valley. Experience incredible fauna and interact with amazing animals and the local people along the way.
Our tour starts before the crack dawn at 3am. We settle in for a 3-hour drive in our private transportation to the small town of Chivay. Chivay, located on the left side of the Colca Canyon, is the central spot for any hike to the many view points of the canyon and there are many activities close by.
We stop in the center of town for a quick breakfast before embarking on our hike to Cruz del Condor (Condor´s Cross) viewpoint. We start hiking early enough that we arrive at the perfect time to possibly see the magnificent condors at very close range. The Andean condor is the second biggest bird in the world and the pictures you get here will make your friends squirm with envy. Enroute, enjoy the wititi local dancers and views of terraces that blanket the valley. Also, find the Antahuilque and the Choquetico Tombs viewpoints. On arrival at Cruz del Condor, we spend time being awe struck by an out of this world view of Andean Condors and the valley.
After, we return to Chivay to visit the small town of Maca that’s known for its colonial church from XVI century. We also get to observe the day to day lives of the locals working tirelessly in their agricultural terraces. Upon arrival in Chivay, we head over to the hot springs of La Calera, for a soak in their therapeutic thermos pools. That’s followed by a shot trip to town for gourmet lunch before heading towards the city Arequipa. Along the way we stop at the highest point between Colca Canyon and Arequipa, Patapampa (4,800m). We get stunning views of the volcanic mountain range that encompasses the essence of this region.
Later we drive to Toqrapampa, to visit small crystal-clear lagoons, with a variety of unique Andean birds swirling around. Finally, we arrive at Pampa Cañahuas National Park, to spend some time with llamas, alpacas, and the national animal of Peru the Vicuñas.
We head to our hotels in Arequipa, arriving around 5pm.
