Cusco (3,300m.s.n.m.) – Andes- (3650m.s.n.m.) Cloud Forest (1,700m.s.n.m.), Basin (250m.s.n.m.)
Manu National Park, from its entrance at 4000 meters above sea level to its basin at 250 meters above sea level, covers an area of almost two million acres! To get there, the first day we travel in our minivan about 11 hours with interesting stops on the way. On our return to Cuzco on the last day our minivan trip lasts six hours.
The second day we travel in our private motored boat for forty minutes as part of our brief adventure of the Manu Biosphere.
Your epic three-day tour to Manu National Park begins with an early morning pickup at 4:00am from your hotel in Cusco. We will embark on a two hour drive through the South Sacred Valley with staggering views of mountains and valleys to Paucartambo.
We reach the town of Paucartambo at (2906m/9534ft) above sea level, the folkloric capital of region. This colonial town boasts incredible colonial buildings and an umissable ancient stone bridge.
After relishing a traditional breakfast, we drive up hill to the high mountain pass the Acjano Pass (4000m/13 123ft), an amazing viewpoint. You will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Manu River snaking through the lowland tropical jungle. This is also the entrance to Manu National Park.
After soaking in the views of the Amazon, we will begin our drive down the hill through the pristine cloud forest. We will be passing different prestine waterfalls and lush tropical jungle. We stop briefly in the jungle to spot the Peruvian National Bird, Cock of the Rock. Our local expert will explain more about the distinct bird in detail.
This part of Manu Peru is also home to different species of monkeys. You will be spotting Capucin Monkeys and Wooly Monkeys here among others.
We will be reaching the Atalaya boat pier by noon. Here we will embark on a two hours boat ride down the Madre de Dios river deep into the Amazon jungle. We will be stopping at our own rustic Robles’ Treehouse Lodge.
After relishing an Amazonian meal for lunch, we will embark on a short hike to spot different species of native birds, animals, and trees. Be sure to ask our experienced guide as many questions as you please.
After , enjoying a stunning sunset, we return to the lodge for a lavish dinner and a well-deserved rest.
The second day of your trip to Manu Peru is possibly the most awaited day. We will be leaving our tree house at 05:00 AM to see the unmissable Parrot and Macaw Clay Lick. Hundreds of brightly colored birds flock in to the cliff to eat the clay.
The clay here is known to be rich in nutrients that help these birds to flush out toxins from their bodies. Witnessing the clay lick on your jungle trip is an experience on its own.
Once you have had your fill of this, we will be serving breakfast here. You will also have the opportunity of spotting toucans and monkeys in this region. After contemplating the views, we will embark on a hike through the pristine jungle to spot more wildlife.
As locals, our tour guides have plenty of knowledge about the flora and fauna, most distinct to Manu Peru. You will discover the use of most medicinal plants as we will be hiking deep in the pristine jungle, away from the touristic crowd.
We will be hiking through bamboo forests. The region houses many ancient trees. This is also where a plethora of creatures live.
We will be returning to our treehouse for lunch. Our chef will surprise you with a traditional meal. After lunch, you will have a free afternoon. You can relax in the treehouse or do river tubing in the clear waters of Palotoa river.
You will be amidst the serene jungle and will be spotting different mammals like river otters. Manu Rainforest Peru is the only tour operator to offer this activity.
After witnessing the sunset, we will return to the lodge for a hearty meal.
You will be waking up to the sound of chirping birds on the last day of your Manu Jungle Tour. After relishing a native breakfast, we will be checking out from our Treehouse Lodge and will head to the boat pier for our ride back to Atalaya pier.
Along the boat ride, you will have the opportunity to spot Capybaras, herons, and vultures among other mammals and birds.
At Atalaya Pier, our driver will be waiting for us for a scenic drive back to Cusco with a stop in Paucartambo.
We will be reaching Cusco city by 0400 PM.
