Manu Peru dominates the vast majority of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. To make this 1.9 million-hectare National Park more accessible, authorities have divided it into three zones. Spanning from an entrance at an impressive altitude of 4000 meters above sea level to a basin at 250 meters above sea level, Manu National Park boasts an expansive area of nearly two million acres. To reach this remarkable destination, our journey begins on the first day with an 11-hour minivan ride, filled with captivating stops along the way. As our adventure comes to a close on the last day, our return trip to Cuzco lasts approximately six hours, still within the comfort of our trusty minivan.
On the second day of our expedition, we continue our exploration of the Manu Biosphere aboard our private motorized boat. This thrilling leg of the journey takes us on a scenic 40-minute ride, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the wonders of this remarkable biosphere.
Get ready for an incredible three-day tour to Manu National Park that begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 am. As we embark on this unforgettable adventure, we’ll enjoy a scenic two-hour drive through the mesmerizing landscapes of the South Sacred Valley. Prepare to be awe-struck by the majestic mountains and valleys that unfold before your eyes.
Our first stop is the charming town of Paucartambo, located at an elevation of 2906 meters (9534 feet) above sea level. Known as the folkloric capital of the region, Paucartambo boasts a rich colonial heritage. You’ll have the opportunity to explore its remarkable colonial buildings and marvel at the ancient stone bridge, a true architectural gem.
After immersing ourselves in the town’s beauty, we’ll treat ourselves to a traditional breakfast that will energize us for the rest of the journey. Next, we’ll embark on a drive uphill, reaching the magnificent Acjano Pass at an elevation of 4000 meters (13,123 feet). This vantage point offers an astonishing panoramic view of the Manu River as it gracefully meanders through the lush lowland tropical jungle. It is from this point that we officially enter the enchanting Manu National Park.
After savoring the views of the Amazon, we will commence our descent through the untouched cloud forest. Enchanting waterfalls and vibrant tropical jungle will grace our path. Briefly pausing in the jungle, we’ll have the opportunity to spot the illustrious Peruvian National Bird, the Cock of the Rock, while our expert guide provides detailed information about this remarkable species.
This region of Manu Peru is also inhabited by various monkey species, including Capuchin Monkeys and Woolly Monkeys, among others. Keep your eyes peeled for these playful creatures as we continue our journey.
By noon, we will arrive at the Atalaya boat pier. Here, we will embark on a two-hour boat ride down the Madre de Dios river, venturing deep into the heart of the Amazon jungle. During this immersive experience, we will make stops along the way before reaching our rustic Robles’ Treehouse Lodge.
Once we’ve relished a delightful Amazonian lunch, we will embark on a short hike to marvel at the diverse array of native birds, animals, and trees that call this region home. Feel free to engage our experienced guide with any questions that pique your curiosity.
As the sun sets, painting the sky with its stunning hues, we will return to the lodge, where a sumptuous dinner awaits us. After a day filled with awe-inspiring adventures, it’s time to indulge in a restful evening, rejuvenating ourselves for the excitement that lies ahead.
The second day of your trip to Manu Peru is possibly the most awaited day. We will be leaving our tree house at 05:00 AM to see the unmissable Parrot and Macaw Clay Lick. Hundreds of brightly colored birds flock into the cliff to eat the clay.
The clay here is known to be rich in nutrients that help these birds to flush out toxins from their bodies. Witnessing the clay lick on your jungle trip is an experience on its own.
Once you have had your fill of this, we will be serving breakfast here. You will also have the opportunity of spotting toucans and monkeys in this region. After contemplating the views, we will embark on a hike through the pristine jungle to spot more wildlife.
As locals, our tour guides have plenty of knowledge about the flora and fauna, most distinct to Manu Peru. You will discover the use of most medicinal plants as we will be hiking deep in the pristine jungle, away from the touristic crowd.
We will be hiking through bamboo forests. The region houses many ancient trees. This is also where a plethora of creatures live.
We will be returning to our treehouse for lunch. Our chef will surprise you with a traditional meal. After lunch, you will have a free afternoon. You can relax in the treehouse or do river tubing in the clear waters of Palotoa river.
You will be amidst the serene jungle and will be spotting different mammals like river otters. Manu Rainforest Peru is the only tour operator to offer this activity.
After witnessing the sunset, we will return to the lodge for a hearty meal.
You will be waking up to the sound of chirping birds on the last day of your Manu Jungle Tour. After relishing a native breakfast, we will be checking out from our Treehouse Lodge and will head to the boat pier for our ride back to Atalaya Pier.
Along the boat ride, you will have the opportunity to spot Capybaras, herons, and vultures among other mammals and birds.
At Atalaya Pier, our driver will be waiting for us for a scenic drive back to Cusco with a stop in Paucartambo.
