The Lake Titicaca Tour with Homestay will start at 7:30am with a transfer in our private van to the port of Puno. We travel by local motorboat to the famous floating islands of Uros. The locals used a local aquatic plant called “totora reed” to make homes on top of the water. This form of bulding is very unique to Puno and not found in many other places of the world. See how they have electricty, flushing toilets and hot showers. Walking on the island makes you feel like you are on a waterbed yet is still completely safe to walk, live in, and explore. The community is made of around 60 individual islands and during your tour you have the oppotunity to visit two of them. A local representitive will teach about daily life in the islands and the history of this island that dates back more then 300 years ago.
After, we head to the small island of Amantani for a chance to summit to Pachatata ( father earth) at 4,115m/ 13,500ft above sea level. For those that are feeling adventures and can hike at an accelarated pace, we offer an optional hike to the higher summit of Pachamama (mother earth) for an even greater view of the islands and beautiful surrounding water. Once we disembarc at island port, we are met by our respective host families. You join your designated host family for a scrumptious lunch made from organic local ingriendients.
Later, we meet up to start a grup hike to enjoy the sunset at pachatata. Your designated host family will serve a typical lunch made from natural products. Then there is an optional football match with the locals, and a hike to the high point of the island to watch the sunset. The horizon stays lit for a while after sunset, giving us sufficient time to hike back with good lighting. After dinner we spend some time at the community hall to watch how locals wind down or you can head over for a soccer game with the children before retiring at your homestay.
Home stay will provide you with basic facilities. It will be nothing fancy, but you are guaranteed a complete cultural immersion.
Waking up to breakfast that has been prepared by your hospitable hosts, we get ready to depart to our final island, Taquile. After an hour’s boat ride we arrive at the island of Taquile, thats full of culture and tradition. We start a gradual ascent at high altitude to the center of the village. On arrival, you will be met with locals in traditional outfits and they will perform a local dance show. Take this opportunity to try on one of they skirts from the ladies or hat from the gentlemen and learn a few dance steps.
Later, we had back down towards our boat, stopping at local restuarant. We settle in for a delicious lunch made from typical island ingredients, the view from your lunch stop is spectacular. In your horizon, views of mountain peaks from the neighbouring Bolivia are clearly visible. Learn the different types of hats men wear and the significance behind them. Learn how this is one of the few cultures in the world where a mens marital status is represented in his clothing. Next we watch a demonstration of the wool dyeing process and a traditional plant they use as shampoo to clean it. After all this excitement, we board our motorboat for a relaxing trip back to Puno. Arrival is scheduled for 4pm and we will transfer you back to your hotel.

If you would like to avoid the high credit card fees in Peru, you may pay in cash at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in Cusco. There are many ATMS within the historical center to withdraw money. You can also pay by VISA or PAYPAL online but you will have to pay a 5.5% service fee, charged by VISA and PAYPAL.
