One day trip to the stunning Rainbow Mountain

The newly discovered Rainbow Mountain is the most eye-catching freak of nature, you will ever come across. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world. It stands tall (5,020 m/17,060ft) in its uniqueness with many vibrant colors. These astonishingly striking colors are formed by weathering, environmental conditions and sedimentary mineral deposits over time. Nestled in the Andes mountains in the South Valley of Cusco, with spectacular views of the snow-capped Ausangate Mountain.

The hike takes you through some secluded communities. Here, you may interact with the indigenous people who are still keeping their culture alive and speak their indigenous language of Quechua! Do not be afraid to talk and interact with the locals, as your guide is there to translate anything you need/ask.

You will see snowcapped peaks, herds of llamas, glaciers and turquoise lakes, all set within an incredibly colorful mountain range. The Rainbow Mountain trek offers a selection of wildlife including soaring condors, cara cara falcons, and if you’re lucky, bobcats or pumas. The colorful sandstone mountains in the area are probably the coolest and most unique natural phenomenon you will experience in Peru.

Our one-day tour to Rainbow Mountain includes a hot breakfast and lunch cooked by our amazing chefs. We transfer you in our modern vans from your hotel lobby, to the trailhead and back. Our groups are small and intimate and never exceed 8 people. We have trained all our guides to deal with altitude sickness. They carry an oxygen tank with them at all times incase its needed. As an added bonus Sam Corporations includes an optional hike to the nearby Red Valley. The Red Valley looks like a picture straight out of Mars.

The strikingly beautiful turquoise Humantay Lake

Humantay Lake is an incredible turquoise lake that is situated at the base of the glacier covered Vilcabamba Mountain Range. Nature lovers of all fitness levels enjoy and appreciate the picturesque Humantay Lake. On arrival you are immediately enveloped by this natural sense of calm and peace.

Puno, the highest navigable lake in the world, is one of the most important cities on the edge of Titicaca Lake. The city of Puno is the Folk Capital of America, because of its 300 variety of traditional dances. During festivities such as “Virgen de la Candelaria”, the locals perform typical dances like the “Caporales” and the “Diablada”. Thousands of tourists and locals make their way here during the month of February to experience these unique festivals.

Puno is located on cold high plains at 4,000m above sea level. The city also known as the land of camelidae, was home to the Tiahuanaco culture many thousands of years ago. This culture has some of the most beautiful historical artifacts such as Puerta del Sol (The Sun gateway), a temple sculpture made of stone.

The city is mostly filled with buildings made of adobe and roofs covered with metal panels. The city center is small. If you want to experience a bit of the nightlife then take a short journey over to Jiron Lima, where you will find different restaurants and vibey spots with great music.

Amantaní island is located at 36 kilometers from the port of Puno. A great place to visit, with plenty of natural viewpoints of the lake, islands, and mountains that surround it. From these viewpoints you can also see the prehispanic temples of Pacha Tata, de Pacha Mama, Incachincana, Inca Tihana and the cemetery of mummies.

The Uros “floating islands” is a group of 60 artificially created islands entirely made up of totora reeds. They locals navigate the islands using their traditional boats also made from totora reeds, creating a unique and interesting way of life. The residents of Taquile, Suasi, and Amantaní are known for their kindness, ancestral weaving skills, pre-Columbian constructions, and sprawling countryside. The Titicaca National Reserve (36,180 hectares) protects extensive stretches of totora reeds and various species of plants and animals.
